Kernagis was shot in the cab of Clark’s pickup on Illinois Highway 1 near the Balmoral Racing Club early Monday, said Illinois State Police.
Clark told police Kernagis threatened him because he wouldn’t return to a Crete tavern and kill a man who had argued with him, police said.
