Someone had to miss a start, and it will be Scott Sanderson.
The White Sox have open dates Monday and Thursday, so manager Gene Lamont pretty much had to bypass a starter. Sanderson was the choice, Lamont said Friday, though the veteran has been solid in two of his three starts and not so bad in the other one.
“You could say, `Why not skip Jack (McDowell)?’ ” Lamont said. “But I just think Jack needs to pitch to get himself back together.”
Lamont also said Sanderson has shown he can pitch after a layoff.

“I like this place,” Lamont said.
But its time has passed, he said, as it did for Cleveland Stadium and Arlington Stadium. “The two they replaced-Cleveland was overdue, and Texas was just kind of an addition and an addition and an addition to a minor-league park, really.”
Disarming: The Tigers began the night 13th in the league in earned-run average. They’re dead-last in strikeouts, and only the A’s staff (Bobby Witt) has walked more hitters. It’s familiar territory.
“I ain’t talking about pitching no more,” said Detroit manager Sparky Anderson.
