What kind of bizarro place is this? Some guy has his head stuck on top of puppet bodies!!

No, these aren’t some mutants. It’s “Nickelodeon Weinerville,” the half-hour puppet/cartoon clips show that airs weekdays at 2:30 p.m. CDT, and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m.

The show features comic Marc Weiner and such characters as Socko, a wise guy teen from New York, Cocktail Frank, who leads the house band, and Dottie, the mayor of Weinerville. Skits and games are played with the help of a studio audience of kids and adults.

Weiner has been a comic, clown and street performer since 1976. He came up with the head thing because “I figured if I had the puppet body and all I had to do was stick my head on top of it, I could go from puppet body to body much quicker.” Weiner made a game show TV pilot based on his head-on-a-puppet act for Comedy Central a few years ago. The all-comedy cable network passed on the idea, but test audiences looked at the pilot and said, “This show looks like it belongs on Nickelodeon.” Said Weiner, 41: “I’m not that stupid, so we took it to Nickelodeon.”
