A construction worker was killed Tuesday when a 20-foot-tall asphalt hopper fell on him, police said.
Raymond Heinz, 59, of Northbrook was pronounced dead at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights. The accident occurred at Arrow Road Construction Co., 3401 S. Busse Rd., according to police officer William Roscop.
A U.S. Occupational Health & Safety Adminstration inspector was dispatched to the scene.
Heinz was part of a three-man crew from Asphalt Equipment Supply Inc., Arlington Heights, dismantling the two-story hopper shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday when it partially collapsed, Roscop said.
Roscop said the hopper struck the victim, flipping him inside the hopper.
