National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman Sheldon Hackney wants to promote “national conversations” on the forces and issues that draw Americans together and apart but he’s still searching for the most suitable format and topics, according to an endowment spokesman. That search will bring Hackney to Chicago for a March 4-6 conference organized by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Catharine Stimpson, who directs the MacArthur Fellows program and is helping organize the conference, said about 20 scholars from around the country will meet with Hackney.
