Earthquake-damaged libraries, archives and museums in the Los Angeles area will be eligible for some of the $1 million set aside last summer by the National Endowment for the Humanities to help Midwest cultural institutions hurt by extensive flooding. An endowment spokesman said Monday that not many Midwest institutions have applied for the emergency grants and only a few hundred thousand dollars have been awarded to date. Institutions in the Midwest and California have until July 31 to apply for the grants, none of which can exceed $30,000.
