Proviso East 71, Leyden 53: No. 16 Proviso East (20-4, 11-0) jumped to a 10-0 lead and never trailed in the West Suburban Gold contest. Leyden (7-15, 4-6) committed 19 turnovers and watched the Pirates grab 13 offensive rebounds.
“That’s what we’ve been preaching all year-to work hard at both ends of the court,” Proviso East coach Andrew Johnson said. “One of our keys is to press the ball offensively and defensively. We feel good about our improvement.”
Kevin Thomas led the winners with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Danny Williams contributed 11 points. Leyden’s Anton Collins led all scorers with 30 points and also grabbed 13 rebounds.

Dennis Carroll added eight points and eight rebounds for the Lions, who won the rebounding battle 23-14. Josh Dirmish led York (10-13, 4-7) with 10 points.
Lyons coach Ron Nikcevich praised Davis’ defense. “They wanted to hit the three-point shot because Steve Davis did an excellent job of negating their inside game,” he said.
Proviso W. 65, Downers Grove N. 50: Duane Vaughn scored 16 points to lead Proviso (18-4, 7-3) past Downers North (14-8, 5-5) in the West Suburban Silver.
“I liked our defense tonight, particularly the half-court defense,” Proviso West coach Mark Schneider said. “I was very pleased with our rebounding too.” His team won the rebounding battle 48-36.
Dan Stokes led Downers North with 13 points.
Hinsdale Central 59, Oak Park 50: Hinsdale (6-17, 2-9) pulled the West Suburban Silver surprise behind Kenny Julian’s 19 points. Jim Barcelona added 12.
Naperville Central 69, Glenbrook North 55: Matt Sandora’s 18 points and Tyler Turnquist’s 14 paced No. 14 Naperville Central (21-2) to the non-conference victory.
