The agency, which will be run by a six-person board comprised of two members from each city, is soliciting bids for a multi-year contract.
“We’ll get better pricing . . . because it’s a larger contract,” said Marta Touloumes, the recycling coordinator for Geneva and St. Charles who proposed the merger and will take over as the agency’s executive director.
“This will expand recycling opportunities . . . particularly among multi-family housing, and ensure uniformity,” Touloumes said. “It will be much easier to educate the public when the rules are the same in all three towns.”
Bids will be opened Feb. 18, she said. The agreement allows Batavia, Geneva or St. Charles to kill the deal if any of the councils find a proposed garbage contract unacceptable.
Batavia and St. Charles currently use Fox Valley Disposal, a subsidiary of Waste Management, while Geneva uses the local firm, Speedway Disposal. All three contracts expire in June.
