Illinois: This has been a disappointing season for Illinois’ women’s basketball team. But the Illini managed to stay out of the Big 10 cellar by defeating last-place Michigan 77-62 Friday night in Ann Arbor. Senior Mandy Cunningham had 24 points.
On Sunday, though, the Illini lost 71-56 to Michigan State at East Lansing. The 10th-place Illini (7-12, 2-8) play national powerhouse Iowa in Huff Hall on Sunday.
The women’s tennis team opened the season with a three-match sweep. The Illini defeated Illinois State 9-0, Western Michigan 5-4 and Drake 7-2 at Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign. Kristi Meola, a senior from Florham Park, N.J., won all five of her matches over the weekend. She’s 10-4 in singles this season.
