Northeastern Illinois: Only time will tell if the Golden Eagles’ numbing 86-85 loss Saturday to Missouri-Kansas City on a desperation 30-footer will derailed their trip to respectibility.

“I told them it was a hard way to lose and they didn’t deserve to lose like that,” coach Rees Johnson said. “Then I told them they could go one of two ways-let it take their heart away, or get mad, suck it up and go harder.”

Northeastern’s effort, coming back from as many as 17 points down in the first half, spoke volumes about how far the Golden Eagles (13-8) have come in their four-year Division I history. Previously, they had never come close to giving Missouri-Kansas City a game.
