“Goin’ East on Ashland” premieres Wednesday at the Beverly Art Center in Chicago.
The limited engagement promises to provide audiences with a comic retrospective on growing up Irish Catholic on Chicago’s Southwest Side.
Mike Houlihan, the author and actor of “Goin’ East,” brings to the stage his recollections of growing up in a small Beverly bungalow with six siblings. His comic escapades include references to Christ the King and St. Cajetan parishes, the Mt. Carmel, Brother Rice and St. Rita High School rivalry, McAuley girls and the politics of 19th Ward Democrats.
“Goin’ East on Ashland” will be performed at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, at 7 and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, and at 2:30 and 7 p.m. Feb. 6. Performances are scheduled for mid-March as well. Tickets range from $10 to $15.
The Beverly Art Center is at 2153 W. 111th St. in Chicago. Call 312-445-3838 for more information.
