A bold bandit invaded a bank just a block from police headquarters Tuesday, slipped a teller a note demanding cash and fled with an unknown amount of money.
The robber displayed no weapon when he held up the First Midwest Bank, 214 W. Washington St., and walked out the door, right across the street from the Lake County Courthouse, which is usually swarming with police.
Moments after the alarm was tripped, police rushed to the bank but were unable to spot the robber, according to Capt. Donald Johnson. The man fled on foot but not before being captured on the bank’s videocamera, Johnson said.
