Northern Illinois: Huskies women’s basketball coach Jane Albright-Dieterle admits that she hasn’t talked much with her players about Tuesday’s game against Iowa.
She doesn’t have to. “We think about Iowa every day,” junior Angela Lockett said. “They’re always in the back of our minds.”
Tuesday night in De Kalb, the fourth-ranked Lady Hawkeyes will be on the Huskies’ minds and in their faces. Northern (8-3) is riding an eight-game winning streak.
Guard E.C. Hill is averaging 23 points a game, and Lockett has reached double figures in points and rebounds in six of the last seven games.
The Hawkeyes (11-1), coming off a loss Friday at Indiana, are gunning for coach Vivian Stringer’s 500th career victory. Stringer is 499-112 in her 22nd season.
The wrestling team picked up two seconds, two thirds and a fourth at the Miami of Ohio Open. Shannon Gregory, a 118-pounder, won two decisions before losing 10-8 to Tim Dernian, an unattached opponent, in the final, and Jason Solomon won three straight matches at 126 before losing to Indiana’s Trevore Elliott 6-2 in the final. Ben Lehrfeld took third at 167, and heavyweight Demond Rodez also placed third, while Matt Bouback finished fourth at 134.
