Northern Illinois: The balanced scoring would make any coach proud. But the results Northern Illinois has been coming up with have been anything but pleasing to coach Brian Hammel.
The Huskies (4-8, 1-4) dropped their third two-point contest of the season Wednesday, falling 67-65 at Wisconsin-Milwaukee. They also have a one-point loss, meaning NIU could just as easily be 8-4 as 4-8 heading into Monday night’s home game against Wright State (6-10, 3-2).
“I guess the good thing is, we’re not far (away from being successful),” Hammel said. “Sometimes we have four guys on the same page and one thinking something else.
“If we can have one player elevate his game 5 percent, and then another one, we’ll be all right.”
As mentioned, Hammel couldn’t be happier with the Huskies’ balanced scoring. Randy Tucker leads four players in double figures with a 17.7 average. Hubert Register is at 14 a game, Mike Lipnisky at 12.8 and Jamal Robinson at 10.6.
Following Monday’s game, the Huskies play host to Western Illinois on Thursday before traveling to Youngstown State Saturday and Cleveland State Jan. 31.
