The action comes six months after the state Department of Children and Family Services increased the number of children allowed in home day-care centers.
The village ordinance was amended to permit an additional four youngsters in day-care homes, increasing the total number to 12 children in a single day-care home.
“We felt it was an ordinance that can be changed for the benefit of the village,” said Trustee Nancy Czarnik, who heads the Judiciary, Planning and Zoning Committee.
There currently are about 16 in-home day-care providers in the village, 2 of whom recently asked the village about increasing the number of children allowed in the homes.
According to Czarnik, a state fire marshal must conduct an inspection of the home centers before a provider can take in 12 children.
