The village will hire a landscape architect to help a special committee study whether the village will need to expand its ballfields.

Trustees agreed last week to retain Carl Goetz, of the Hinsdale-based landscape architectural firm of William C. Rose and Associates, to act as a facilitator and technician for the village’s ad hoc committee. Goetz will be paid $40 an hour for fieldwork and $60 an hour for any design work he completes, said village administrator Bernard Oglietti.

Because five members of the nine-member ad hoc committee are village residents with little professional planning experience, officials agreed members would benefit from professional advice.

The ad hoc committee was formed late last year to study the ballfield issue after a group of residents protested that they were being left out of the planning process. Several of those residents were irritated that a proposal to increase the size of ballfields at Community Park on Midway Drive included portions of their property.

Goetz primarily will serve as a technical aide to the committee as it studies the village’s need for additional ballfields, Oglietti said. In addition to attending the committee’s meetings and helping to determine goals and expectations, Goetz will be expected to help members draft a report to the village’s Parks and Recreation Commission.
