A 23-year-old Aurora man was being held Monday in the Kane County Adult Correction Center on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of another man over the weekend.
Burl R. French, of 703 Redwood Drive, was arrested about 4:30 a.m. Saturday at his residence.
French called and turned himself into Aurora police and Kane County Sheriff’s deputies about a half hour after the fatal shooting of David E. Simmons, 21, in the 1500 block of Exposition Avenue in unincorporated Aurora Township.
Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Fred Sierosowski said Simmons was hosting a party at which French was a guest. French allegedly took out a revolver and pointed it at the victim, Sierosowski said.
Erroneously thinking the clip was out and the safety was on, French allegedly fired the weapon at point-blank range at Simmons’ chest, Sierosowski said.
French was scheduled to appear Jan. 20 in Kane County Circuit Court.
