The Village Board will hold a special meeting at 6:45 p.m. Monday to discuss placing an advisory gambling proposition on the March ballot.
The meeting is in response to a group of gambling opponents who failed to gather the necessary 10 percent of signatures from registered voters.
Representatives of the clergy and citizen groups asked the board to use its home-rule authority to put the question on the ballot. The deadline for placing a proposition on the ballot is Saturday.
The proposal, which has been placed on the ballot in at least a dozen municipalities throughout the Chicago area, would ask residents if they think they should be given the right to vote before any gambling enterprise is approved for their town.
