After starting the season with eight of its first 12 games on the road, Northeastern hopes the second half plays to the tune of “Sweet Home Chicago.”

The Golden Eagles play eight of their remaining 12 games, including an away date Thursday at Chicago State, in Chicago. All told, Northeastern will have to leave the city only four times in its last 14 regular-season games.

Northeastern’s first-half schedule included only one non-Division I opponent, and games at Oklahoma, De Paul, Montana and Minnesota. In another road contest, the Golden Eagles notched their biggest victory ever with an upset of Arizona State.

The Golden Eagles moved to 8-6 Saturday with a 129-92 thumping of Division III Grinnell College. Northeastern set a school record with 79 second-half points, which included a 26-0 run. Senior forward Reggie Smith scored a career-high 41 points in only 25 minutes.

The focus of Northeastern’s second half will be its East Coast Conference schedule, the school’s first Division I league affiliation. The Chicago State game kicks off a chase for the ECC title, which several periodicals picked Northeastern to win.
