“I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

So said White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf Thursday when asked if he thought Michael Jordan will work out with the club in spring training.

“I know this: Michael will never make a fool of himself,” Reinsdorf said. “And he would not ask us if he didn’t think he would be successful. He can’t possibly prove that because he hasn’t hit against live pitching.

“It all started when Michael went to the ballpark and asked (trainer) Herman Schneider to help rehab his wrist. Then Michael started fooling around at the batting cage, taking a few swings.”

Asked if he believes Jordan could have a future in baseball, Reinsdorf insisted it is possible.

“One night we had a bowling party for the Bulls’ sponsors,” he recalled. “He said he had never bowled before. He turned his back on the pins and bowled two strikes between his legs.”
