Northern Illinois: James Spillman was the Huskies’ top performer at the Midlands wrestling tournament last week, going 3-2 in the 150-pound division. Spillman beat his first two opponents before losing to No. 3-seeded Andy McNerney. He then won his first wrestleback before getting eliminated by former two-time NCAA champ Dave Barnes. Spillman and his teammates travel to East Lansing, Mich., for Saturday’s Michigan State Open.
Angela Lockett, who missed last season because of knee surgery, showed signs of bouncing back last Thursday when she had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the women’s basketball team’s 96-61 victory over Eastern Illinois in the Mid-Continent Conference opener. E.C. Hill added 28 points and seven assists, and Caryn Alexander had 11 points and 13 rebounds. The Huskies hit the road to play Illinois-Chicago on Thursday and Valparaiso on Sunday before returning to De Kalb for a four-game homestand.
