Maine West looked to its bench to hold off Deerfield 63-49 in a Central Suburban North contest Friday night in Des Plaines.
Substitute Aaron Hagle-who had three rebounds and scored seven of his eight points in the fourth quarter-sank two free throws, and Alex Dennis hit a jumper to increase a six-point lead to 10.
John Vana led Maine West (7-1, 2-1) with 26 points, while freshman Ryan Hogan paced Deerfield (2-6, 1-2) with 17.
“We knew if we had the lead we could control the pace, and that’s exactly what we did,” Maine West coach Jim Sullivan said of his Warriors’ 16-10 fourth-quarter advantage.

Schaumburg 42, Rolling Meadows 40: Schaumburg prevailed in the Mid-Suburban South behind Jack Michaels’ 16 points.
Libertyville 77, Fenton 62: Libertyville was paced by Matt Heldman’s 32 points in the North Suburban.
Waubonsie Valley 54, Larkin 49: George Poulakidas (23 points) and Rick Fregia (21) led Waubonsie Valley in the Upstate Eight.
Loyola 54, St. Francis de Sales 52: Silas Betten finished with 13 points and 18 rebounds to lead Loyola (2-5, 1-2) in the Catholic League.
Round Lake 65, Johnsburg 49: Chris Knauf paced Round Lake in the Northwest Suburban with a game-high 22 points.
Dundee-Crown 81, Lake Zurich 63: Graper Griffin’s 29 points led Dundee-Crown in the Fox Valley.
Hoffman Estates 63, Elk Grove 51: Nick Abruzzo and Mark Gansic scored 12 points apiece for the Hawks (7-1, 2-0) in the Mid-Suburban South.
West Aurora 68, Elgin 58, OT: West Aurora captured the Upstate Eight game. Doron Massie scored 23 points and Danny Eddy 21.
Maine East 55, Glenbrook South 41: Chad Barnes scored 17 points to lead Maine East (4-4, 2-1) in the Central Suburban South.
