Kimberly Globis had just pulled into the parking lot of her apartment building, returning from a softball game with her two children, when a neighbor told her that a man was waiting to talk to her.
The next thing the neighbor knew, Globis was running from the side of the building with the man in pursuit, firing a gun as her 6-year-old daughter looked on in horror, according to testimony Wednesday at a coroner’s inquest of the Oct. 19 slaying.
A coroner’s jury confirmed what most already suspected-that the 25-year-old woman was killed by four shots from a .357-caliber handgun, said Kevin Smith of the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities say the alleged shooter was a former boyfriend of Globis’, 34-year-old Leslie Peace. Peace was arrested after he was shot by a SWAT team officer and was charged with murder.
