A former records clerk at the St. Charles Police Department is alleging she was forced to quit her job after she was sexually harassed by co-workers for reporting an incident involving a male officer.

Tracey Alsup, who primarily worked the midnight shift from September 1987 to June 1992, filed her complaint Oct. 25 with the Illinois Human Rights Commission.

The complaint names the city, the Police Department and Chief James Roche as defendants. Officials would not comment.

“It doesn’t surprise me, but that’s all I’m really going to say,” Roche said Friday.

Alsup alleges the discrimination began after October 1990 when she reported that a male officer stopped at her apartment uninvited one night, then undressed in front of the woman and her roommate.

The complaint alleges the chief failed to stop co-workers from harassing her, and that her requests for relief resulted in being moved to the day shift and losing some responsibilities.
