Northern Illinois plays host to the Mid-Continent Conference volleyball tournament Friday and Saturday, with the champion-if it’s not the Huskies, there might be an investigation-earning the conference’s first automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.

NIU completed its sweep of Mid-Con opponents over the weekend, whipping Youngstown State and Cleveland State to improve to 27-4, 18-0 in the conference. The Huskies outscored their Mid-Con opponents 810-237 and have won 42 straight conference matches.

Wright State plays Eastern Illinois at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by NIU-Valparaiso. The title match is at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Dandy diver: Diver Tony D’Amico set a school pool record with 324.60 points against Loyola and qualified for the NCAA national prequalificiation Zone C meet later this season.

Let the games begin: The men’s basketball team plays Marathon Oil in its final exhibition Tuesday in preparation for the season opener Saturday against Aurora. The women’s team jets off to Hawaii to open its season Friday against Loyola Marymount in the Paradise Classic. Hawaii and NIU are the favorites.
