Officials for the Lake County Forest Preserve District have applied for $200,000 in state grants to help renovate boating facilities at the Fox River Recreation Area near Barrington.

The 245-acre preserve is the district’s only holding along the Fox River and was acquired a little over a year ago.

The boat launch, marina, campground and picnic areas need renovation, and the district is developing a master plan for the improvements.

In addition to applying for the grants, district officials also expect to use funds from the $30 million bond proposal approved Nov. 2.
