An 11-year-old plan to close part of Spaulding Road has pitted residents of two subdivisions against one another, and neither side shows any indication of backing down.
At least 15 residents of the Amber Grove subdivision told the Village Board Tuesday that they were upset over plans to vacate Old Spaulding Road, move it 1,000 feet south and extend the new Spaulding Road about 2,400 feet to the west. Moving the road will open it to increased truck and commuter traffic and endanger area children, they said. In addition, many Amber Grove residents said they were never told of the plans to move the roadway.
However, a group of Villa Olivia residents said they want the village to honor its agreement to vacate Old Spaulding Road and decrease traffic near their subdivision.
