Illinois’ first elected female state’s attorney was appointed Thursday as executive director of Kane County’s new Child Advocacy Center.
Patricia Piper Golden, who was elected as Carroll County’s top prosecutor in 1976, will lead Kane County State’s Atty. David Akemann’s fight against child physical and sexual abuse.
“This was one of my objectives when I campaigned 25 months ago,” Akemann said in introducing Golden, who for the last year has advised the Kane County Board as an assistant state’s attorney.
With 10 years’ experience in a private family law practice, Golden said her first efforts will be establishing a team of investigators, securing grants and other funding and establishing a positive relationship with municipal police departments
“If it works and it’s good for children then we have a responsibility to carry it out,” said Golden. “The cycle of child abuse is one that can be stopped if it’s caught early enough.”
