Public radio WBEZ-FM 91.5 on Tuesday announced its new program schedule, effective Jan. 1. Additions include the local news shows “Talk of the City” (Monday-Friday 12:30-2 p.m.), “Metropolis” (Saturday noon-4 p.m.) and “Best Game In Town” (Sunday 4-5 p.m.). National Public Radio’s “Talk of the Nation,” hosted by former WMAQ-Ch. 5 reporter Ray Suarez, will also join the lineup, airing Monday-Friday 2-3 p.m. and Monday-Thursday 7-8 p.m. “Jazz Forum” and “Passport” host Chris Heim has been named acting music coordinator, and will oversee the station’s 50 weekly hours of locally produced jazz, blues and world music programming. In a related move, two weekend music shows, the eclectic “Radio Gumbo” and “Earth Club,” both hosted by 7 1/2-year WBEZ veteran Stuart Rosenberg, have been canceled effective immediately to make room for broadcasts of “Talk Of the Nation” (until it moves to weekdays in January).
