There’s such a fine line between broken dreams and promise renewed, as Joliet Catholic and Bolingbrook discovered in their Class 5A playoff game Wednesday. With 16 seconds left, John Cerri’s 36-yard field goal missed by the width of a football as Bolingbrook hung on for a 27-25 victory. Joliet Catholic’s players have turned in their equipment-the seniors for the final time-while No. 7-ranked Bolingbrook (10-0) adds another wrinkle to its postseason drama Saturday with a Class 5A second-round game against No. 19 Providence (9-1) at Wrather Memorial Field in Bolingbrook. This time, the regulation high school goalposts will be used, six feet wider than ones at Joliet Memorial Stadium that deploy college goalposts for the College of St. Francis football team.
