St. Rita 36, Dunbar 14: Jeff Frieri rushed 36 times for 234 yards and two touchdowns and Tim Angsten complemented him with 126 yards on 21 attempts as St. Rita (9-1) stopped Dunbar (6-4).
“The offensive line has been knocking people off the ball and playing really well,” said St. Rita coach Todd Wernet. “We’ve got the first win. Now we’ve got to take a step back and prepare for Saturday.”
Thornwood awaits St. Rita in the second round.
Loyola 14, Evanston 7: Jarett Romanski broke free on a 32-yard touchdown run and linebacker Timothy Fowler came up with the game-saving interception late in the game as the Ramblers (8-2) advanced to a second-round game Saturday at Glenbrook South.
Romanski scored the winning touchdown on fourth and 1 with 7 minutes left and Loyola trailing 7-6.
Hoffman Estates 22, Lake Park 6: Senior tailback Bryce Taylor rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries to lead Hoffman Estates (8-3). Senior Jayson Kohn added a 37-yard field goal and kept Lake Park bottled up with his booming kickoffs and punts. Hoffman Estates gets a rematch Saturday with Conant. Hoffman Estates defeated Conant 9-0 in their first meeting this season.
