One of the cars, a station wagon, carried nine people, said Deputy Fire Chief John Nixon.
Two of the injured, including the pregnant woman, were initially listed in critical condition, and two were listed in serious condition, said Nixon.
The lone motorist was the second person initially listed in critical condition.
The accident took place on U.S. Highway 20, also known as Lake Street, just east of Park Boulevard at 3:48 p.m. Nixon said it appeared the lone motorist was exiting the parking lot of Aluminum Coil Anodizing Corp., 501 E. Lake St., when the station wagon going east on Lake Street hit the car broadside.
The station wagon contained eight women and a male driver, Nixon said.
At Hoffman Estates Medical Center, nursing supervisor Cheryl Bogdanowski said the 19-year-old woman who was five months pregnant was suffering abdominal pains after the accident. The woman was given and ultrasound exam and was being analyzed to determine her condition and that of her fetus.
