Workers will begin carving trails through the Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve this week, after Lake County officials gave the go-ahead to the work.
The Lake County Forest Preserve District approved $301,000 in improvements to the 400-acre forest preserve.
The work will include installation of trails and bridges in the forest preserve and a parking lot on Checker Road, east of Illinois Highway 83, officials said.
