A Mokena man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl who lived less than a block from his home.
Kenneth Bakalik Jr., 28, was found hiding in the closet of a townhouse under construction at 5 a.m. Monday. He also is charged with residential burglary.
According to Mokena police, the girl was reported missing from her home on Cambridge Drive shortly after midnight Monday.

After a 45-minute search by Will County, Frankfort and Mokena police, the girl was found a block away from her home. She was taken to Palos Community Hospital, Palos Heights, while other officers began to search the area for Bakalik, who was apprehended 2 blocks from the girl’s home.
Police said that the girl later identified her attacker.
Bakalik is expected to appear at a bond hearing in Joliet Tuesday.
