The detour signs throughout the village this week might fluster some motorists, but officials say they are confident the result will be worth the headaches.
As part of Downers Grove’s annual road-maintenance program, Des Plaines-based A.C. Pavement Striping Co. will patch and seal cracks and resurface more than 13 miles of streets, said Village Manager Kurt Bressner. The project, which will entail closing different streets each day, is expected to begin Monday and take at least three to four weeks, said village engineer Robert Jungwirth.
Despite the relatively short construction time, officials know drivers will be irritated by having to find different routes. Patience, it seems, will be the operative word.
“Be patient with us,” Jungwirth said. “We’re trying to find alternate routes to make everyone’s life easier.”
The contractor began repairing portions of 50 streets in the spring, officials said. Both projects are part of the village’s $1.5 million roadway-maintenance plan for 1993.
