The village was concerned that when insecticide spraying begins this week, the village mosquito-control company would have a new pest to combat in addition to the 55 mosquito species in Illinois.
The black fly, a Wisconsin insect known for inflicting painful bites, is heading south and has been reported in Lake County. That news prompted village trustees to question Roselle-based Clarke Environmental Mosquito Management at a Monday board meeting about possible fly infestation in the village.
Not to worry, said Clark Wood, the company’s vice president for service operations.
“We haven’t seen that this has been a major problem here,” he said.
Clarke will spray the village’s Du Page County side for mosquitoes. The Northwest Mosquito Abatement District will spray the Cook County side of the village.
