Coaching isn’t that tough. Toronto coach Pat Burns uttered one word of instruction to his players-“remember”-as they prepared for a possible series clinching victory Thursday night in St. Louis in Game 6 of the Norris Division finals.
After practicing Wednesday at Maple Leaf Gardens before flying to St. Louis, Burns huddled the team on the ice. Ahead 3-2 in the series, he succinctly reminded them of their Game 6 performance against Detroit during the first round in the same circumstance.
“All I had to say was `remember.’ ” Burns said.
He was pointing to the Leafs’ miserable performance in Game 6 against the Red Wings when they had a chance to clinch the series on home ice. It slipped from their grasp in a 7-3 loss. Toronto had to go to overtime in Detroit after rallying late in the third period to capture the series in Game 7.
