A power outage shut down Highland Park High School on Monday, prompting officials to give the school’s 1,500 students a three-day weekend.

A main electrical line feeding the school failed early Monday, said Supt. James Warren. The outage was repaired before school began but when the power was turned back on, it blew out a transformer, Warren said.

After that, officials decided to shut down the school for the day and began notifying the community of the closing, he said. Classes are scheduled to resume Tuesday.

Earlier this year, Warren said, the school was closed for a day when a transformer off the school grounds blew.
