Outfielder Forry Wells is making a run at the Big 10’s baseball Triple Crown. Wells, who also punts for the football team, went 7 for 14 against Purdue over the weekend to improve his batting average to .407, which was among the top three in the league going into Monday’s action.
The junior from Belleville also is tied with teammate Scott Spiezio with 10 home runs and is second in the league with 48 runs batted in.
Wells’ hot bat couldn’t stop the Illini from dropping three of four to Purdue over the weekend in Champaign. The Illini dropped to 26-18 overall and 8-12 in the Big 10.
