Look for the White Sox to make another last-minute trade before the end of spring training.

Last year, they traded for designated hitter George Bell and signed free-agent reliever Terry Leach just before breaking camp. This spring, they have an abundance of outfielders and a surplus of relievers. And, like most teams, they would like another proven starting pitcher.

General Manager Ron Schueler said Thursday he was working the phones and hoped to have a deal before spring training ends with three games April 2-4 in Las Vegas.

“It won’t be a major deal like the George Bell thing,” he said. “I would say it would be right about Vegas or even while we’re in Vegas. I think we’ll do something.”

He refused to say who might be traded or whom he was seeking. But several teams have approached the Sox about reserve outfielders Mike Huff, Dan Pasqua and Shawn Abner.

“I’ve been asked about our catching,” said Schueler, referring to reserves Matt Merullo, Rick Wrona, Scott Hemond and Clemente Alvarez.
