The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy has placed first in the nation on the American High School Mathematics Exam.

The academy, in Aurora, not only had the top team score of 425 points among 5,694 high schools taking the exam, but also had the highest total since the current scoring system began in 1986. Scores of the leading three students make up the school’s total.

The three top scorers for the academy were Christopher Jeris of Naperville, Patrick Keenan of McHenry and Stephen Wang of St. Charles. Jeris, who scored 145 points, tied for third place in the nation.
