Fire officials said Wednesday that a weekend fire at the exclusive Hunt Club Farms subdivision was “suspicious,” but they stopped short of saying it was arson.

Chief Tim McGrath said investigators are suspicious of the cause of the fire because of the patterns left from burns and because a side door to the $400,000 house was open when firefighters arrived. Meanwhile, a dog trained to sniff out accelerants zeroed in Wednesday on a canister in the rubble. That canister is being examined to determine if it contained anything that might have been used to start the fire, McGrath said.
The fire was reported at 2:46 a.m. Sunday at a two-story house at 17088 Yearling Ct., in the Hunt Club Farms subdivision. The house was being rented by an interior decorator, who used the house to show different furniture and decorating styles, McGrath said.
Damage is estimated at $600,000, which includes $200,000 in furniture and other furnishings. No one was home at the time, and there were no injuries.
