The body of a 32-year-old Near North Side woman was found Sunday afternoon in the rear of her Jeep Cherokee three blocks from the woman’s home, police said.

Shelly A. Nordbrock, of the 1600 block of North Hudson Street, suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at 4 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police released few details about the homicide Sunday night.

The medical examiner’s office said that Nordbrock’s purse and identification were in the vehicle, which was found in the 500 block of West Blackhawk Street. Nordbrock was a management-level employee with Continental Bank.

Her husband, Scott A. Berke, told police he had last seen his wife about 10 p.m. Saturday when she left for a party, and he called police after she didn’t return home by 1 a.m., a friend of the couple said.

Police confirmed that Berke had filed a missing-person’s report for his wife.

Little parking is available in front of Nordbrock’s apartment because of work being done on the street. But an acquaintance of the couple, who lives in the same building, said it would be unusual for Nordbrock to park on Blackhawk Street because closer parking can be found.

Lillian Roosevelt, who lives near where Nordbrock’s vehicle was found, said she saw the Jeep when she left about 5 a.m. Sunday to go the Maxwell Street market, where she is a vendor.

“I walked right by it,” she said. “I was parked right in front of it. I was shocked when I heard about the woman. I leave home early and I’m always looking about. This is going to make me more leery now.”

Mary Wood Hunt, who also lives nearby, said she saw the vehicle when she left for church at 10:30 a.m. But, she said, “It’s not unusual to see strange cars in the block. People are always parking around here to go shopping, to Michigan Avenue or do whatever.”
