Two residents have been charged with illegally killing as many as 18 deer in two months, sometimes shooting the animals from their car, police said Thursday.

The arrests of Daniel Jenkins, 24, and Jason Sarbacker, 21, followed a two-month investigation by the Illinois Conservation Department. Capt. Howard Brewer of the Conservation Department police said authorities were seeking others believed to have been involved in the poaching, which he said took place in the Wadsworth area.

Jenkins was charged with one count of resource theft, one count of unlawful possession of metal-piercing ammunition, two counts of hunting with a vehicle and two counts of hunting at night, authorities said.

Sarbacker was charged with two counts of hunting with a vehicle and two counts of hunting at night.

Police said they seized several guns equipped with scopes, including a .357 Magnum, and nearly 150 pounds of metal-piercing ammunition. They also said they recovered deer parts and trophy racks.
