Two more people have been arrested in connection with a bribery ring that allegedly issued hundreds of bogus driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, police said Monday.
Anthony Gonzales Sr., 57, and his son, Anthony Gonzales, 35, both of unincorporated Lake County, surrendered last week on arrest warrants charging them with forgery and bribery, Lake County Sheriff’s Lt. Chester Iwan said.
The latest arrests bring to six the number of people charged in connection with the scheme. Authorities said at least 650 fraudulent Illinois driver’s licenses were issued last year at the Illinois Secretary of State’s office in Libertyville, where one of the suspects worked.
Recipients of the phony licenses were mostly illegal aliens who paid from $650 to $1,000 each in bribes. The arrests came after a seven-month investigation that was prompted by a tip by an employee at the Libertyville facility.
