Naperville Central wasn’t content with an 11-0 run to start its opening-round game Wednesday night against Glenbard West at the West Aurora sectional. Another 11-0 run in the second quarter wasn’t enough, either.

It took a 14-0 third-quarter run to satisfy No. 20 Naperville Central (21-5), which cruised to its 73-54 victory.

“It was a ragged ballgame,” Naperville coach Bob Sterr said. “We got off to a good start and that took the pressure off us. They tried to slow down the game but we shot well early.”

Tyler Turnquist led the scoring with 17 points and Anthony Parker chipped in 16 points. Jon Brackman topped Glenbard West (2-24) with 20 points.

In other West Aurora sectional action, West Chicago (16-9) advanced with a 68-57 victory over Geneva. Dave Valenti (20 points), Danta Norwood (18) and Tom Suess (16) led the balanced attack.

Matt Hoffman scored 19 points and Bryan Crabtree added 14 to lead Wheaton North to a 70-59 victory over Glenbard North.

Sean Jones scored 16 points, Kevin Richardson 11 and Jason Buckley 10 as Naperville North eliminated Batavia 55-44. Peter Hrejsa’s 20 points paced Batavia, which trailed by one entering the fourth quarter before Naperville (17-8) pulled away.

Fenton sectional-No. 13 Maine West (24-2) took charge early in its 65-48 victory over Niles North, running off to a 12-0 lead at the start of the game thanks to five straight Niles North turnovers. That lead became 18-4 after one quarter, but the Warriors couldn’t put away Niles North.

“We were aggressive early in the game, but that fizzled a little bit,” said Maine West coach Jim Sullivan, who was sufficiently unhappy that he played his starters much of the last period. “After the game, I told them that when we have a 15-17-point lead with 3-4 minutes left and I have to play my starters, something is wrong.”

Brian Johnson had 20 points and four blocked shots for the winners, who also got 11 points from John Vana. Mike Bencal had 15 points, David Eshaya 12 points to lead Niles North (7-18).

Gordon Tech (17-8) rolled over Fenton 77-52 as Sean Pryor and Marty Banaszak scored 17 points each. Gordon led 30-17 at halftime. Fenton (7-19) got 16 points from J.J. Pena and 15 from Tony Petrovich.

Josh Larson and Rob Hielscher each scored 15 points to give New Trier a 61-47 victory over Weber. New Trier plays Friday at Maine West.

Bill Vodieka had 23 points to spark Glenbrook South to a 63-54 victory over Evanston. Senyom Pompey led the Wildkits with 14 points.

Moline sectional-Jordan Walker scored 17 points, Jeff Bankowski 16 and Paul Kindelspire 11 as No. 18 Morris (22-3) advanced with a 60-54 victory over Streator.

Public League playoffs-Top-ranked King (25-0) advanced with a 106-46 pasting of Red-Central rival Phillips one day after a leaky gym roof forced the game to be played at Robeson.

King led 40-12 at halftime and finished with five players in double figures, led by Thomas Hamilton’s 20 points. Rashard Griffith and Jerard Billingsley added 18 points apiece and Michael Hermon, making his King debut, chipped in with 10.

King put the game away with a 15-0 spurt midway through the second quarter. Hamilton had three dunks during the run, which was capped by a steal and dunk by Hermon, his first basket as a Jaguar.

“It’s hard to play a team a third time when you’ve beaten them big before,” said King coach Landon Cox, whose team beat the Wildcats by more than 30 points in each of their two prior meetings. “But our guys came out and played hard today and that’s a good sign.”

Derrick Randolph paced Phillips (16-11) with 17 points.

Romeoville sectional-Myron Hood’s 19 points paced Bolingbrook (16-10) to a 78-65 victory over Oak Forest (13-13). Greg Williams had 18 and Darius Young 15 for Bolingbrook. Mike Macfarlane led Oak Forest with 31 points.

Brian Green scord 16 points, Brian Bechtold 14 and Adam Shafer 13 as Downers Grove South (18-7) eliminated Sandburg (6-19) 67-44.

Bill Savicki scored 12 points and Larry Guess added 11 as Hinsdale South (20-6) eliminated Stagg 51-38.

Downers Grove North edged Oswego 59-55 behind Derrick Williams (19 points), Jonthan Redd (16) and Mike Woods (11). Oswego’s Tim Silagi led all scorers with 28.
