Go West Indian Summer (EMI) (STAR)(STAR) 1/2
Peter Cox and Richard Drummie’s eponymous Go West LP in 1985 arced the gap between British technopop and classic Motown. What then was novel is now yesterday’s news: count the variations on Wham! and Rick Astley since. Pitch into the pop-gristle category songs like “Faithful” and “The King of Wishful Thinking” (the latter a leftover from the “Pretty Woman” soundtrack). Cox’s scratchy cover of Bobby Caldwell’s “What You Won’t Do For Love” passes as a soulless, note-for-note version.
