Every Friday afternoon, artist Gretchen Travers hands out paintbrushes and canvas to a pair of high-powered businesswomen, tells them to think
”beautiful thoughts” and stands back.
One result: Retailer Judy Niedermaier`s striking portrait of cosmetics maven Marilyn Miglin.
”Since we both run companies, we work pretty concentrated days, so we find this very therapeutic,” says Miglin about the duo`s weekly art session held in Travers` Works in Progress studio, 48 E. Oak St.
During their first get-together, Niedermaier turned out a cute-and-quirky acrylic oil rendition of her pal Miglin. ”My first impression was, um, amazement,” says Miglin, who plans to hang the piece on the wall of her newly remodeled kitchen.
Niedermaier took some artistic license with Miglin`s wardrobe, changing her coat to violet and adding a string of diamonds. ”I thought it would enhance the outfit,” she explains.
