What`s cooking?: The hot book around Highland Park High School these days is a nourishing how-to book: the recently published, 188-page, $10 Highland Park High School Collection of Recipes. And copies are going as fast as secretary Rickie Piagentini`s Disappearing Cake.

”We printed 300 in mid-October and are 60 percent sold,” said Fine and Applied Arts Chair Connie Kieffer, who compiled the book with science teacher Bonnie Koven. Born from recipe swapping at a staff party three years ago, the book project grew to include contributions from all groups of school users and employees.

Book proceeds will help fund an employee computer-buying program. But it is the book`s payoff in fellowship, not finances, that excites Kieffer.

”It has broken down barriers. It has brought all the constituencies of the school together: custodians, secretaries, students, faculty,” Kieffer said. (Call 708-926-9298 for information)
