Village Council members says they will rescind a resolution they passed earlier this year protesting a 5.1-acre development just outside village boundaries because developers have agreed to scale down the project.
Commissioners were concerned that the 56-unit Maplewood town home development was so dense it would create parking and snow-plowing problems if ever annexed into the village so they passed the resolution in July to ensure the development would need to be approved by three-fourths of the County Board. Village officials also filed a formal objection to the development with the county`s Zoning Board of Appeals to further block the development.
The development is planned for a site in unincorporated Du Page County just west of Belmont Avenue at Maple Avenue. The location falls within an area that probably will be annexed into Downers Grove in the future, officials said.
”That being the case, we just don`t want to be on the receiving end of any problems,” said village manager Kurt Bressner. But after working with county and village planners, developer Ray Urich said he is willing to build only 42 units on the property to keep it within village standards.
Village Council members are expected to rescind the resolution Monday.
